Carolina has won three of the last four team titles at the event dating back to 2019
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 4 South Carolina is set to compete in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic starting Friday morning at UGA Golf Course. The Gamecocks are seeking their third consecutive team title at the event dating back to the 2021 on the heels of a runner-up finish by All-American Ana Pelaez.
Carolina shot 874 (+10) last season to win by eight shots over No. 16 Texas A&M. It marks the 21st all-time appearance for the Gamecocks at the event, which was established in 1973 and renamed in honor of Liz Murphey, a former UGA golf coach and hall of famer, in 1995.
Senior Mathilde Claisse has the top spot in the lineup this week. She’s joined by sophomore All-Americans Hannah Darling and Louise Rydqvist as well as freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand and graduate transfer Katherine Muzi. Senior Justine Fournand will compete as an individual.
It’s another solid field this week with nine of the 15 teams ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfstat poll.
This weekend will mark the final stroke play tournament for the Gamecocks before concluding the regular season at the Wolfpack Match Play (April 3-4).
Carolina will be paired with College of Charleston and Georgia Southern for the opening round on Friday. Muzi will lead things off on hole one at 9:15 a.m. (ET).
