PHOENIX, Arizona — No. 22 Northwestern went wire-to-wire to win the PING/ASU Invitational championship at Papago Golf Course. The Wildcats set the tone in Round 1 with a 282, eight shots ahead of the next-closest team, and then backed it up with identical scores on Saturday and Sunday to finish the competition with an 18-under 846, the fifth-best 54-hole tournament score in program history. They finished 14 strokes ahead of runner-up No. 11 Arizona State, 22 shots up on No. 3 Mississippi State, 24 on No. 8 Texas, 29 on No. 5 Oregon, and 37 on No. 13 Southern California.

While nothing less than a balanced attack could deliver such a resounding win, the Wildcats were led once again at Papago by graduate student Kelly Sim. The New Jersey native and 2021 champion at the event won her second PING/ASU title (and third overall of her career) with a 10-under 206 (68-69-69) and has now signed nine consecutive scorecards at the event at-or-under par.

Rookie Dianna Lee continued her strong run of play with a T4 result, Lauryn Nguyen came in T6, Irene Kim was T9 and Jieni Li finished T15.

The team win was Northwestern’s first since the 2020 Lady Puerto Rico Classic, and the 16th of head coach Emily Fletcher‘s tenure in Evanston.

The ‘Cats will conclude the regular-season on April 3 at the elite Silverado Showdown in Napa, California, before gearing up for the Big Ten Championships and NCAA postseason.
