Three-Day Tournament To Be Played At Prestigious TPC Harding Park In San Francisco
BERKELEY – The California men’s golf team will stay close to home when it competes in The Goodwin on Thursday through Saturday in San Francisco. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is hosted annually by Stanford and will be played at the prestigious TPC Harding Park, the host of the 2020 PGA Championship.
Cal, which has played just once since the start of March, enters The Goodwin ranked 57th and 58th nationally by Golfweek and Golfstat, respectively. The Golden Bears own the ninth-best national ranking among the tournament’s 28-team field. Sampson Zheng – who is averaging 70 strokes per round and owns five top-20 finishes in six events played this season – will look to pace a group of seven Bears competing in The Goodwin, including Simon Kwon, Aaron Du, Nathan Wang and Daniel Heo. Both Costas Panay and Papon Sawatyanon will compete as individuals.
The Bears will start round one on hole 10 between 1:05-1:53 p.m. on Thursday and round two on hole 1 between 8-8:48 a.m. on Friday. The first two rounds will be played alongside Colorado, San Diego and SMU.
The Goodwin is one of three remaining tournaments on Cal’s schedule before focus shifts to postseason play at the Pac-12 Championships.
