HEATH LEADS SEMINOLES IN FIRST ROUND OF AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN’S AMATEUR

EVANS, Ga. – The 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur is underway with the completion of round one Wednesday afternoon at Champions Retreat Golf Club. Florida State’s Charlotte Heath leads the three Seminoles competing in the invitational after shooting an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 13th place heading into round two.

The No. 1 ranked amateur golfer in the world and Stanford sophomore, Rose Zhang, leads the event with a tournament record-breaking score of 6-under par (66).

Although Heath’s front-nine consisted of two bogey’s on holes 4 and 8, she quickly recovered with a birdie on hole No. 9 to finish her first nine at 1-over par. She played par golf through her next seven holes on the back-nine, with the addition of a birdie on the 17th hole to finish 1-under par for round one.

Heath’s first-ever appearance at ANWA starts off in a remarkable way, as the junior at Florida State is T13 after the first round.

Freshman Lottie Woad makes Florida State history as the first freshman Seminole to compete in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Although her first round is off to a disadvantageous start at 5-over par, Woad has made groundbreaking comebacks in recent events that continuously proves her deserved No. 8 Golfstat ranking.

Woad’s day started off on the back-nine, immediately saving par with a phenomenal up-and-down from off the green on hole No. 10. She was unable to do the same on No. 12 and allowed a bogey, followed by two back-to-back double bogeys on the tail end of her back-nine.

Making the turn at 5-over par, Woad fought back and captured her only birdie of the round on hole No. 2. She completed her round with a bogey on the 9th hole to finish 5-over in a tie for 52nd place.

Fifth-year senior Amelia Williamson competed in her first and last Augusta National Women’s Amateur first round. The graduating senior struggled with the undulations, gusts of wind, and cold spell that accompanied Champions Retreat Golf Club.

Starting off the back-nine, Williamson started off her second hole with a double-bogey on the par 3, followed by another double and two bogeys on the remaining holes of the nine.

At the turn, she allowed four more bogeys, but ultimately showed her resilient play with a birdie on the eighth hole. Williamson is T67 at 7-over par.

Round two tee times begin tomorrow with Charlotte Heath and Amelia Williamson at 8:46am ET, followed by Lottie Woad at 9:44am ET. After the completion of round two, there…
