Carolina women’s golf competes in the Wolfpack Match Play Invitational Monday and Tuesday, April 3-4, at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh.
The Tar Heels are the No. 6 seed in the eight-team field and play No. 3 Virginia in the opening round Monday at 8:50 a.m. (beginning on the 10th tee).
Carolina and Virginia are bracketed with No. 2 Florida State and No. 7 Virginia Tech. The winning and losing teams from Monday’s morning matches play at 1:30 p.m.
The rest of the draw includes No. 1 South Carolina, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 NC State and No. 8 Louisville.
Last season, the Tar Heels defeated Duke and NC State by identical 4-1 scores to reach the championship match against South Carolina, where the Gamecocks won four of the five pairings.
UNC’s lineup for the 2023 Wolfpack Match Play includes freshman Megan Streicher, junior Crista Izuzquiza, seniors Kayla Smith and Krista Junkkari and sophomore Riley Quartermain.
Junkkari won all three of her matches in this event a year ago. Izuzquiza and Smith both went 2-1 with day-one wins over the Blue Devils and Pack.
The Tar Heels are coming off a tie for fourth place last week at the rain-shortened Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga.
Streicher finished ninth at 1-under 143 and Izuzquiza tied for 10th at even-par 144. Both were career-best finishes for those respective players.
The Wolfpack Match Play is the final tournament prior to the ACC Championship, which is April 13-16 in Greensboro, N.C.
