Cougs place two inside the top-15 on the first day of the Silverado Showdown


NAPA, Calif. – The Washington State women’s golf team had a pair of golfers finish the first round of the 2023 Chevron Silverado Showdown inside the top-15 on the player leaderboard, as fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood and freshman Emiko Sverduk each sit in 13th after carding 2-over 74.

As for Washington State, the Cougars concluded the tournament’s first round in 12th place after carding 19-over 307. WSU ended the first day of the Chevron Silverado Showdown ahead of four Pac-12 Conference teams, which included No. 22-ranked Arizona, No. 37-ranked California, Washington, and Oregon State.

Sverduk posted the best round of her young WSU career in Monday’s first round, as the Long Beach, California native carded 2-over 74. Meanwhile, Habgood collected the third-most pars in the first round of the Silverado Showdown, as the Nambucca Heads, Australia tallied 14 pars en route to finishing her day at 2-over 74. Both Habgood and Sverduk will open Tuesday’s second round in a tie for 13th on the player leaderboard.

Freshman Lily McCauley finished her first 18 holes of play at the Silverado Resort just four strokes behind Habgood and Sverduk, as the Tumwater, Washington native shot 6-over to conclude her day in a tie for 56th on the player leaderboard.

No. 16-ranked Northwestern leads the field after one day of play at the Chevron Silverado Showdown. The Wildcats were the only team to card under par in the first round, as Northwestern shot 4-under 284 to take an eight-stroke lead over No. 9 Arizona State and No. 13 Texas A&M into Tuesday’s second round. ASU’s Amanda Linner and UCLA’s Zoe Campos are tied for first place on the player leaderboard, as each golfer carded 5-under 67 in the tournament’s first round.

The second round of the 2023 Chevron Silverado Showdown gets underway Tuesday, April 4, at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California. Play begins at 8 a.m. PT and fans can follow all of the action at GolfStat.com.
