Vols Tied for Lead After Day One at Mossy Oak Collegiate


WEST POINT, Miss. – The 15th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is tied for the lead through one day of play at the Mossy Oak Collegiate—led by four Vols inside the top 25 after roughly one and a half rounds of play.
 
Each of the 18 teams in the field completed round one of play Monday and finished roughly half of the second round before play was suspended due to darkness. The second round will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. ET.
 
Tennessee’s five-man lineup was led by Bryce Lewis, who was 8-under for the day on Monday—carding a 4-under 68 in round one and shooting 4-under through 12 holes during round two.
 
Lewis is tied for sixth place after his 63rd career round of par or better—a total that moved into fourth place in program history on Monday.
 
Just one stroke behind Lewis was freshman Caleb Surratt at 7-under through nine holes in round two, tied for eighth place. Surratt carded a 6-under round one to add to his team-leading total of 17 rounds of par or better this season.
 
Sophomore Laurent Desmarchais, making his second appearance in the lineup this season, was 5-under for the day on Monday and is tied for 16th place entering Tuesday. Desmarchais shot a 2-under 70 during round one and was 4-under through his first 12 holes of round two—making four birdies.
 
Coming off an individual title at the All-American Intercollegiate and being names SEC Golfer of the Week, Jake Hall tied for the Vols’ best score in round one with a 6-under 66. Hall finished day one at Mossy Oak at 4-under and tied for 22nd place.
 
Freshman Josh Hill is tied for 59th place after day one, sitting at even par midway through round two. Hill shot a 2-over 74 in round one and is 2-under through the first 10 holes of round two.
 
Competing as an individual, Lance Simpson shot 2-over on Monday and is tied for 66th place.
