Synergy Group Consulting chosen to develop a carbon neutrality program for the golf industry

Synergy Group Consulting, a golf course design and consulting firm based in Scottsdale, Arizona, has been appointed by Spiro Carbon Group to develop a carbon neutrality initiative called “Defend the Green.”

Spiro Carbon is based in Park City, Utah, and provides carbon reduction pathways for its clients. The company uses a proprietary method to automate and digitize monitoring, reporting and verification analytics, which allows for projects of any scale.

Ted Simons, Synergy Group’s CEO and president, said that their work with Spiro’s program will provide golf course and golf facility operators a clear and understandable pathway to becoming carbon neutral.

“Once the initial Spiro Carbon Golf Audit has been completed, an overall strategy is developed to effectively reduce each facility’s carbon footprint,” he said. “Any remaining CO2 residual emissions can be addressed through Spiro Carbon’s discounted Certified Carbon Offset program. Our Sustainability Planning, Staff Training, Certification Program, and Communications Suite will position the golf industry as one of the worldwide leaders in protecting the environment. The entire process is efficient, affordable, transparent and importantly, puts the golf industry on its way to carbon neutrality.”

Ben Worley, CEO of Spiro Carbon Group, said that Spiro’s methods will allow the golf industry to take an active role in reducing its carbon footprint.

“In addition to benefiting the environment, our platform is the world’s first end-to-end grassroots process that allows greater carbon sequestration from farmers around the world; reducing poverty and improving gender equality in developing communities,” he said. “This method of global cooperation benefits the golf industry, the environment, and the small-holder farmer. We are positively changing lives.”

The golf industry has traditionally been criticized for its water management methods, as well as its larger carbon footprint. This partnership will strive to address these issues and help courses find the appropriate pathway to achieving carbon neutrality and become a global leader.
