Alabama Opens 2023 SEC Women’s Golf Championships Wednesday


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama women’s golf team is set to begin postseason play when it competes at the 2023 Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf Championships this week. The tournament will take place Wednesday through Sunday, April 12-16, in Birmingham, Ala., at the par 72, 6,301-yard Greystone Golf and Country Club Legacy Course.  

Freshman Taylor Kehoe will get Alabama’s championship started when she tees off on hole No. 10 at 8:20 a.m. CT Wednesday morning in the first of three rounds of stroke play. She will be followed by Emilie Øverås (8:30 a.m.), Kynadie Adams (8:40 a.m.) and Sarah Edwards (8:50 a.m.) with Benedetta Moresco (9 a.m.) at the anchor spot.  

All 14 SEC schools will compete in a 54-hole, stroke-play format, which includes 18 holes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Eight teams will advance to the match-play quarterfinals Saturday morning, while four teams will improve to the match-play semifinals Saturday afternoon. The final two teams will go head-to-head in the match-play finals on Sunday.

Admission to the event is free to all fans.

The Lineup

  • Sarah Edwards (72.78, +0.91) and Benedetta Moresco (72.80, +0.92) enter postseason play leading the Crimson Tide in both stroke average and average vs. par, respectively
  • Both Moresco and Edwards have combined to be the Crimson Tide’s top finisher in seven of the team’s nine tournaments played this season
  • Emilie Øverås has earned a starting spot in each of UA’s four spring events and is third on the team with a 73.91 stroke average and a +2.00 average vs. par
  • Kynadie Adams (74.24), Taylor Kehoe (75.36) and Isabella van der Biest (77.23) are among the additional Crimson Tide golfers who made the trip
  • Adams and Kehoe earned the start in round one, with van der Biest serving in the alternate golfer position

Previewing The SEC Championships

  • The 2023 SEC Championship field includes eight teams in the nation’s top-20, including four among the top-10
  • Reigning SEC champion No. 3 LSU leads the tournament field with No. 4 South Carolina, No. 5 Mississippi State, No. 10 Auburn, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 14 Ole Miss, No. 19 Vanderbilt and No. 20 Florida rounding out the top 20
  • No. 27 Kentucky, No. 29 Georgia, No. 42 Tennessee and No. 45 Arkansas also rank in the top 50, with No. 51 Alabama and No. 84 Missouri round out the 14-team field
  • Alabama will tee off hole No. 10 Wednesday at 8:20 a.m….
