Christensen Gives Cats a Second Consecutive 66 at Western Intercollegiate

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – For the second consecutive day at the Western Intercollegiate, No. 16 Arizona Men’s Golf received a round of 66 to tie the lowest round ever by a Wildcat at the prestigious event. Sophomore Tiger Christensen’s 4-under par performance on Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club powered the Wildcats’ climb of five spots up the leaderboard. Christensen shot a 66 one day after freshman Filip Jakubcik achieved the feat. Arizona enters Wednesday’s third and final round in a tie for eighth place at 12-over par.

“We played a much steadier round today, which led to a good rise up the leaderboards,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “We did a better job of limiting mistakes but did leave a few strokes out there. Hats off to Tiger on an outstanding round today, following in Filip’s footsteps from yesterday. We have good momentum going for us after two days, and I look forward to even better scores tomorrow.”

Christensen recorded five birdies and one bogey on Tuesday that was capped with back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes for an impressive 32 on the back nine. The Hamburg, Germany native sits at 1-under and in a tie for 21st after two rounds. Jakubcik sits one stroke ahead of Christensen in the overall leader board in a tie for 14th at 2-under.

Senior Chase Sienkiewicz carded Arizona’s second lowest round of the day at 1-over. He shaved five strokes off his scorecard from the day before. Sienkiewicz also bolstered his position atop the par-3 scoring charts, remaining in fourth place out of 92 players.

The Cats took advantage of the par-5 ninth hole on Tuesday, which played at 502 yards. Arizona recorded four birdies on that hole alone after shooting even par on Monday.

Arizona sits in a tie with San Diego State for eighth place at 12-over. It also trails Colorado State by one stroke and UNLV by two strokes heading into Wednesday’s finale.
