SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Pasatiempo Golf Club’s history as a challenging course was on display in Wednesday’s final round of the Western Intercollegiate as not a single program in the 14-team field broke par. Arizona shot 18-over to finish in ninth place at 30-over par. Junior Sam Sommerhauser carded the Wildcats’ best score of the day at 1-under and finished the event as Arizona’s top player in a tie for 22nd place at 4-over par.
“I thought our team did a good job battling today and not giving in,” said head coach Jim Anderson. “This was one of those days that Pasatiempo is known for, and it was a real test for the entire field. We had some great golf played throughout our lineup this week, and we showed some resiliency and growth in one of the top tournaments in golf. We face a quick turnaround to our next tournament later this week, but I believe this team is up for the challenge.”
Joining Sommerhauser in the top 30 of the individual leaderboard was freshman Filip Jakubcik who fired a 66 in the opening round to tie the best round ever by a Wildcat in the event. He ended his week one shot behind Sommerhauser at 5-over and in a tie for 27th.
Arizona will travel directly to Phoenix to participate in the Thunderbird Collegiate, hosted by Arizona State. The regular season finale will begin on Friday, April 14 at Papago Golf Course.
