PHOENIX — The University of Colorado closed out the 2022-23 season with an 11th place finish at the Pac-12 Conference Women’s Golf Championship, Wednesday, at the Papago Golf Club.
The Buffaloes shot their highest of three rounds, carding 14-over-par on Wednesday to finish the championship at 33-over, 897.
No. 14 USC ran away with the team title at 15-under, 849, seven strokes better than No. 9 Oregon. Top-ranked Stanford was third at 7-under. No. 29 Arizona, which was tied with USC for the lead after two rounds, fell back to fourth at 1-over, after a 9-over final round.
Freshman Morgan Miller was Colorado’s top golfer both in the third round and overall for the tournament. Miller shot 1-over on the day to finish tied for 25th at 3-over, 219, as she secured the Buffaloes’ low 54-hole score for the third time this season.
Miller had an early bogey at the 158-yard, par 3, No. 11, but got it back two holes later on the 347-yard, par 4, No. 13. She was 1-over at the turn to the front nine and dropped to 3-over with back-to-back bogeys at the par 3, No. 4 and par 4, No 5. She gained those strokes back over the final four holes with birdies at No. 6 and on her final hole, the 512-yard, par 5, No. 9.
Sophomore Natalie Vo finished tied for 36th overall at 10-over, 226. Vo was Colorado’s second-best golfer for the championship despite having the team’s high round of the day at 7-over, 79. It’s just the third time in 30 starts this season that her round didn’t count toward the team score.
Vo had a rough start playing her first five holes at 7-over. She rebounded to play even the rest of the way, highlighted by back-to-back birdies on a pair of par 4s at No. 6 and No. 7.
Haylin Harris shot 77 in the final round to tie for 39th overall at 11-over, 227. The graduate transfer shot 4-over on her first nine and picked up two strokes with birdies on Papago’s longest hole, the 532-yard, par 5, No. 1 and then on the 161-yard, par 3, No. 4. She fell back to 5-over on the next two holes before finishing her round with three straight pars.
Senior Issy Simpson finished tied for 42nd overall at 12-over, 228. She shot 4-over, 76, in the final round and had Colorado’s best round for a large portion…
