Leonardo Vieira signs with Hokies for 2023-24


BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech men’s golf head coach Brian Sharp announced the signing of Leonardo Vieira to a national letter of intent Thursday morning. The San Leandro, Calif., native joins Tech’s three fall signees – Ashton Harper, Holland Giles and Rahul Rajendran – to comprise the 2023-24 incoming class.

High School: Two-year letterwinner at California Crosspoint Academy … Won league and fired a 68 to win regionals … Team captain … Scoring average of 71.2 while averaging four birdies per round as a senior … Career scoring average of 72.34 … Chose Tech over Boston College, Southern Methodist, UC Davis, Purdue and Illinois.

Junior/Amateur: Two-time U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier (2019, 2022) … Two-time IMG Junior World qualifier (2016, 2018) … Won the AJGA Golf Performance Center Killington Junior Golf Championship with a 1-over 214 (71-72-71) … Recorded another top five at the AJGA Junior at San Jose, tying for fourth … Ranked inside the top 100 of the AJGA Rolex rankings … Twice advanced to the Round of 16 at the San Francisco City Championship.

Personal: Leonardo Vieira … Son of Nuno and Donna Vieira … Plans to major in business … Career goal is to become a PGA Tour golfer.
