Men’s Golf Closes Regular Season at Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate


East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State’s men’s golf team plays its final tournament of the regular season this weekend at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate, being played on the Atkins Golf Course at the University of Illinois.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament beings on Saturday, April 22 with 36 holes and concludes on Sunday, April 23 on the par-71, 7,538-yard course.

Format: Stroke play, 54 holes / Play five, count four

ATKINS GOLF CLUB

Atkins Golf Club is an 18-hole public golf course located on approximately 190 acres. Formerly Stone Creek, the course has served as the home course for Illinois for many year.

LAST TIME OUT

Michigan State shot a 3-over par 287 in the final round and finished in fifth place among 17 teams at the Redhawk Invitational in University Park, Wash. at the Chambers Bay Golf Course on April 4. The Spartans finished the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 14-over 866.

Sophomore Ashton McCulloch fired a 4-under par 67 in the final round, the rest round of the tournament for a Spartan, and finished in a tie for ninth place at 1-over par 214 (72-75-67).Senior Bradley Smithson tied for 20th place at 5-over par 218 (71-725-75) and fifth year Troy Taylor II had the second-best team round of the day, shooting an even-par 71 and tied for 23rd place at 6-over par 219.
