ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – In a head-to-head matchup which the outcome in four of the five pairings were decided on the final hole of the day, the No. 17 Alabama men’s golf team fell to No. 1-ranked Vanderbilt, 4-1-0 in the quarterfinals of match play at the 2023 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championships Saturday morning.
Match Play Quarterfinals
- Freshman Nick Dunlap collected the Crimson Tide’s lone point of the day when he defeated Cole Sherwood, 1up
- The two were tied heading into the final hole, which Dunlap captured to secure the win
- Vandy’s Matthew Riedel defeated Alabama’s JP Cave in similar fashion, 1up, as the two were tied heading into the final hole of the day
- Also dropping their matches by the same 1up score was Thomas Ponder, who fell to Reid Davenport, and Canon Claycomb, who dropped his match with Gordon Sargeant
- Jonathan Griz also fell in his match with William Moll, 5&4
