Virginia Men's Golf | Play Suspended at ACC Championships Until Sunday

PINEHURST, N.C. – The final round of stroke play at the 69th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Tournament was suspended on Saturday due to inclement weather. Play is set to resume on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m.

Golfers who began their rounds early Saturday morning will resume from the point play was halted. The groups scheduled to begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday will now start at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The No. 16 Cavaliers were one of the teams on the course when play was suspended. UVA stood at 2-under par early in its third round as four of UVA’s five players had recorded scores.

Sunday’s rescheduled round will complete 54 holes of stroke play, with the top four teams moving on to match play to determine the tournament team champion.

After two rounds, Georgia Tech led the 12-team field at 13-under 563 while Wake Forest was in second place at 11-under 565. Florida State was third at 4-under 572 and Duke was in fourth place at 3-under 573, three shots ahead of the Cavaliers.

The first-place golfer following the conclusion of stroke play will be recognized as the ACC individual champion. Virginia’s Ben James was in fourth place at -4, 140 after the opening two rounds.

The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday following completion of stroke play. Match play semifinals will now be a split-tee format with the No. 1 versus No. 4 match starting on the first hole, with No. 2 versus No. 3 going off simultaneously, starting on hole No. 10.

The championship match play round is still slated for Monday at 9 a.m.

The semifinals and finals of the ACC Men’s Golf Championship match play will be televised live on ACC Network Extra. Ryan Burr (play-by-play) and Steve Scott (analyst) will provide the call. A championship recap show will air May 1 at 9 p.m. on ACCN.
