Boilermakers Climb Leaderboard to Finish Strong at B1G Championship

PITTSBURGH – Despite a wind chill in the 30s, Purdue Women’s Golf played its best round of the Big Ten Championship to conclude the tournament. The Boilermakers fired a 295 (+11) to finish strong, moving four spots up the leaderboard and placing eighth.  
 
Purdue (+46) nearly jumped six spots, finishing just one shot back of both Michigan and Michigan State who tied for sixth at 45-over. The Boilermakers played the par 3s better than any other team, leading the field in scoring on the short holes (+13).
 
Illinois (+13) captured the team title, a three-shot victory over No. 15 Northwestern. Crystal Wang led the Fighting Illini to the conference crown, earning medalist honors by 12 strokes thanks to a final round 62 (-9).
 
Momo Sugiyama paced the Boilermakers, carding an even-par 71 to tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard at 8-over. The sophomore earned her sixth Top-20 performance of the season, balancing four birdies with four bogeys Sugiyama made three birdies over her final eight holes, including the final two par 3s to end her tournament. With 10 birdies throughout the weekend, Sugiyama ranked fourth in the field.
 
Ashley Kozlowski (+10) cracked the Top 20 as well, adding a final round 76 (+5). She birdied the par-4 ninth, her first hole of the day. After struggling on the back nine, Kozlowski returned to the front and birdied No. 1. The Boilermaker parred her last seven holes to complete a bogey-free 34 (-2) on the front side.
 
Kan Bunnabodee and Danielle du Toit played their best golf of the B1G Championship, matching one another with 74s (+3) during the final round. Bunnabodee’s round featured an even-par 36 on the front, which included a birdie on the par-5 eighth that served as Purdue’s final hole. Du Toit’s day featured a birdie to start before making a par on every hole on the back nine for an even-par 35.
 
Now, the Boilermakers await to see their name on the NCAA Selection Show (April 26, 1 p.m. ET on GOLF Channel).
