BOULDER — University of Colorado sophomore Dylan McDermott has been named the Pac-12 Conference’s men’s golfer of the week for the period of April 17-23, the league announced Tuesday.
In BYU’s PING-Cougar Classic last weekend, he led the Buffalo attack for the seventh time this season, as he tied for seventh with a 9-under par 207 scorecard after a 3-under 69 in the final round. In recording his seventh top 10 finish on the year, he had four birdies and 13 pars with a single bogey in Saturday’s final 18, with 13 birdies and 37 pars and just four bogeys overall. He added to his school season record with his ninth subpar tournament in 10 events.
He played the par-5 holes at 9-under, tied for second-best in the 92-man field, and the par-4’s at 3-under, tied for 10th; his 13 birdies tied for 14 overall and his 37 pars tied for 11th.
He was also the recipient of the honor for the week of February 27-March 3 for a second place finish in Wyoming’s Desert Intercollegiate. He is the first CU golfer to be honored twice in the conference monthly and now weekly awards since the Buffs joined the Pac-12 in 2011.
McDermott, who hails from Granite Bay, Calif., is currently ranked as the No. 42 golfer in the nation by GolfStat and is ranked 327th in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). On Monday night at CU’s annual CUSPY Awards (CU Sports Performers of the Year), he was selected as the Buffaloes’ co-Male Athlete of the Year.
He currently leads the team in stroke average with a 70.17.8 figure; that is the fourth-best in the Pac-12 and 33rd in the nation through last Sunday. He has already set several school records this season and is threatening a handful of others. McDermott has played in 20 tournaments in his young collegiate career, finishing under par in 13 of them; he has 24 of 61 rounds in the 60’s, with 39 of par or better. His 16 rounds in the 60’s for the 2022-23 season also leads the Pac-12 heading into Friday’s conference championship meet in Stanford.
