Three-Day, 72-Hole Tournament Hosted By Stanford

BERKELEY – California will make the short trip south to Stanford Golf Course for the 2023 Pac-12 Men’s Golf Championships, which get underway Friday morning and extend through Sunday. The three-day, 6-count-5, 72-hole stroke play event will be hosted by Stanford and feature all 11 men’s golf programs in the conference.

Competition begins with 36 holes on Friday followed by 18 on both Saturday and Sunday. The first round will see six Golden Bears tee off on hole 1 between 7:30-8:25 a.m. PT, followed by the second round starting at approximately 1 p.m. Cal will play rounds 1-2 alongside Washington and USC. Round three tee times are between 10 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. on Saturday while the fourth and final round will begin between 7:30-9:31 a.m. on Sunday.

Cal, ranked 50th nationally by both Golfstat and Golfweek, is led by junior Sampson Zheng, who was named to the Arnold Palmer Cup international team on Tuesday as an automatic qualifier. Zheng tied for 10th at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships and has been on a torrid streak this season, placing 22nd or better in all eight events played, including four top-five finishes and a share of co-medalist honors at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. He is ranked 27th nationally by Golfstat with a 69.66 stroke average.

Aaron Du – also a top-10 finisher at the 2022 Pac-12s – Nathan Wang, Daniel Heo, Jeewon Park and Simon Kwon round out Cal’s lineup.

The Bears went back-to-back in 2012 and 2013 for their only Pac-12 team titles and have placed among the top three on three different occasions since then, most recently in 2019. Four Cal golfers – Charlie Wi (1995), Eric Mina (2010), Max Homa (2013) and Collin Morikawa (2019) – have won Pac-12 individual medalist honors.

Highlights from all three days of competition will be available the evening after the rounds are complete on Pac-12 Network, the Pac-12 Now app and Pac-12.com.
