LEONIE HARM: MY STORY – Ladies European Tour

Leonie Harm

Leonie Harm has had quite the journey. Bereavement, working in vaccine development, and an almost fatal injury; at the age of 25, she has experienced more hardship than a lot would in their lifetime.

In 2013, as a teenager, the German defied the odds when she survived a car crash that put her in a medically-induced coma and then quicker than anyone expected, she made a miraculous return to the golf course just seven weeks later.

Harm then went on to have the best year of her amateur career winning several titles and the following year she played in the 2015 PING Junior Solheim Cup for the European team in her homeland. Soon she made the decision to go to college in the United States.

Golf is not the only passion in Harm’s life as she attended the University of Houston to study biochemistry and biophysics driven by her aim to one day work as a cancer researcher. The motivation to work in the field is inspired by her own personal connection as in early 2014 her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and she later passed away in the summer of 2016.

After turning professional and making her way onto the LET, the world soon changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but that didn’t stop Harm from putting her degree to good use. As there was a pause in the Tour, she worked as an intern at the Tübingen-based biotechnology company CureVac AG, which at the time was developing a vaccine candidate against the coronavirus.

While telling her story, Harm also talks about playing on Tour and the quick start she had in 2021, as well as one of her sporting heroes Lewis Hamilton and what she learns from other sportspeople. Watch the full video below.
