GALLOWAY, N.J. — With a season-low-tying 67 (-5) from sophomore Hunter Thomson and a pair of 71s from junior Will Anderson and redshirt-junior Jack O’Donnell, the University of Michigan men’s golf team posted a 288 team tally but remained 13th (612) after 36 holes of the 2023 Big Ten Championships being played at the Galloway National Golf Club.
After battling the elements throughout Friday’s (April 28) opening round, the 70-golfer field rebounded in calm and sunny conditions, dropping more than six strokes for the second round — 78.49 to 72.06. Paced by a trio of Wolverines, U-M rebounded from a first-round 324 with a second-round 288 (+4). With a 612 total, U-M remained 13th.
Highlighting the day was Thomson’s season-low-tying 67 (-5). With five birdies and 12 pars, he moved up four positions into the top 10 as he is tied for ninth with an even-par 142 two-round total. With 25 pars, he is tied for second for the most in the championships. Adding in his six birdies, Thomson has posted 31 of 36-hole scores of par or better.
With three birdies erasing three bogeys, O’Donnell responded after his opening 83 with an even-par 71 in the second round. He is tied for 46th at 154 (83-71). Matching that effort, Anderson used a strong start and four…
