Women's Golf's Kayla Smith Repeats On All-ACC Team

North Carolina senior Kayla Smith is one of 15 players voted to the 2023 All-Atlantic Coast Conference team, becoming the first Tar Heel in a decade to earn that award in multiple seasons.

The Burlington, N.C., native won the Texas A&M “Mo”Morial  in September, leads the Tar Heels in stroke average and is Carolina’s all-time single-season and career stroke average leader.

Smith is the ninth Tar Heel women’s golfer to earn All-ACC honors in multiple seasons, the first since Casey Grice in 2012 and 2013. Smith joins a list that includes four-time honoree Catherine O’Donnell, three-time recipients Marcy Newton and Ashley Prange, and two-time selections Kim Byham, Kelly McCall, Katie Miller, Allie White and Grice.

Smith is averaging 72.76 strokes per round in nine tournaments this season, the first Tar Heel ever under 73.00. She also is Carolina’s career leader at 73.43.

The Tar Heels are the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Pullman Regional, which begins May 8 at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.
