Men's Golf Top Seed In Salem (S.C.) NCAA Regional


The University of North Carolina men’s golf team is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA regional in Salem, S.C., the Tar Heels’ eighth straight invitation to play in the NCAA Tournament.
 
UNC is one of six teams to advance out of regionals in each of the previous five NCAA Tournaments with Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt and Arizona State.
 
The Tar Heels are one of three ACC teams in the 14-team field in Salem, which will be played May 15-17 at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. Georgia Tech is the No. 2 seed and tournament host Clemson is ninth.
 

No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 San Diego State, No. 5 Georgia Southern, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Purdue, No. 8 New Mexico, No. 10 Furman, No. 11 Middle Tennessee State, No. 12 Northern Illinois, No. 13 LIU and No. 14 Longwood round out the field in Salem.
 
The top five teams and low individual among non-qualifying teams will advance to the 2023 NCAA Championship May 26-31 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
The Tar Heels, ranked No. 2 in the nation by Golfstat and No. 3 by Sagarin/Golfweek, have won five team titles this season, including three of the four tournaments Sagarin/Golfweek ranks as having the most competitive fields this season – the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas; the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.; and the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Fla.
 
UNC also won the Williams Cup in Wilmington, N.C., and the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City, Fla.
 
Carolina will be playing in a regional for the eighth straight NCAA Tournament (2015-19 and 2021-23 with no competition in 2020 due to the pandemic).
 
The Tar Heels have finished tied for fifth in each of the last two NCAA Championships.
