SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UCLA women’s golf team is tied for fourth at 10-over, 298 and three strokes back of the lead after the first round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional at TPC San Antonio on Monday. Zoe Antoinette Campos owns a share of the lead (-2, 70) and Caroline Canales sits one stroke back (-1, 71).
No. 6 Texas A&M and No. 22 Oklahoma State are tied for first at 7-over. It is anyone’s tournament, however, as the top five teams are all within three strokes of each other. The top five teams in the 12-team will advance to the NCAA Championships May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Campos birdied all four par-5s on the course. After starting her round with two bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes, Campos finished the back nine even par with two par-5 birdies on the 14th and 18th. She went on to birdie her next two holes to get to 2-under on the day. Tied with Campos in first place is Oklahoma State’s Thitaporn Saithip.
Canales also birdied holes one and two just minutes after Campos. She started her round with a bogey on the 10th and bounced back with birdies on the 11th and 15th. Canales is in a three-way tie for third.
Alessia Nobilio is tied for 41st (+6, 78) while Annabel Wilson and Yuki Yoshihara are tied for 47th (+7, 79).
