Barcos Inside Top 20 After Day One of Morgan Hill Regional

MORGAN HILL, Calif. Javier Barcos shot a 1-under 71 and owns a share of 19th with one day of play in the books at the NCAA’s Morgan Hill Regional, which got underway on Monday at The Institute golf course.

Barcos, who is one of 10 individuals in the field trying to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships, is currently tied for third among those competitors, one stroke behind two individuals at 2-under.

The junior from Estella, Spain got off to a very steady start, reeling off eight straight pars before posting a birdie on the par-4 ninth. Despite bogeying the 11th, Barcos returned to form the rest of the way, adding another birdie on the par-5 14th and closing with four more pars to maintain a spot in the top 20. Nobody in Morgan Hill had more first-round pars than Barcos’ 15.

This was the 15th time in 2022-23 Barcos carded a round with a score of par or better.
