Bondesson in First Place After NCAA Tournament First Round

Morgan Hill, Calif. – Freshman Alfons Bondesson carded a five-under 67 to lead the field after the opening day of the regional round of the NCAA Championship in California.

As a team, the Tigers finished one under in Morgan Hill, placing sixth of 13 schools in the tournament.

Bondesson carded seven birdies on the day to go with just two bogeys to lead three golfers in a tie for second place by one stroke. The rookie’s 67 is tied for the fifth-best score by a Mizzou golfer during a regional round of the NCAA Tournament and the lowest ever by a MU freshman.

Not too far behind, senior Charlie Crockett sits in a tie for ninth place after a two-under 70 through 18 holes. The senior holed out from just over 100 yards on the ninth hole for an eagle two, while adding four additional birdies for his two-under tally.

Junior Jack Lundin (+3), freshman Antonio Safa (+3) and graduate DJ Springer (+6) rounded out the day for the Tigers.

Day two of the tournament is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. CT.
