Burnett Maintains Lead, UNC Tied For Third After Two Rounds At Salem Regional


Ryan Burnett shot a 4-under 68 Tuesday to maintain a one-shot lead in the individual standings and three other Tar Heels shot 70s as the University of North Carolina remains in third place after 36 holes at the NCAA Salem Regional at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls.
 
David Ford, Austin Greaser and Dylan Menante each were 2 under par today as the Tar Heels posted a 10-under 278, which equaled the third-best team round of the day.
 
Arkansas is the leader after 36 holes at 39 under par with Georgia Tech second at 32 under. Carolina, the top seed in the regional, is tied for third with New Mexico at 25 under and Northern Illinois is fifth at -23.
 
Georgia Southern (-18) and Clemson (-16) are next. The top five teams following tomorrow’s third and final round will advance to the NCAA Championship, slated for May 26-31 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
Burnett, who won his second collegiate title in early April at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla., has a one-shot advantage over Clemson’s Andrew Swanson and the Razorbacks’ Segundo Pinto. Burnett made eight birdies and an eagle in Monday’s opening round and followed that today with seven more birdies en route to a 68 and a two-day total of 13-under 131.
 
Greaser is tied for eighth at 7-under 137 and Menante is tied for 22nd at 4-under 140.
