ATLANTA – Alabama golfers Sarah Edwards and Benedetta Moresco finished in the top two spots in the Atlanta-based U.S. Women’s Open qualifier to earn an invite to the 78th U.S. Women’s Open, which will be played July 6-9 in Pebble Beach, Calif.
Edwards won the qualifier at 7-under par 137 (69-68) with Moresco finishing second at 6-under 138 (69-69).
The United States Golf Association (USGA) reported that it received 2,107 entries to qualify for this year’s championship with all looking to gain a spot in the 156-player field. In all, 36-hole qualifying will take place at 26 sites: 23 in the United States and one each in Belgium, Canada and Japan.
