Men’s Golf Surges Up Leaderboard, Finishes Tied for Second at NGI


MARICOPA, Ariz. – Senior Jimmy Meyers put together a stellar final round to help the Penn State men’s golf team surge up the leaderboard and finish tied for second place as the inaugural National Golf Invitational concluded Sunday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
 
The Nittany Lions entered Sunday’s third and final round in a tie for sixth place, but Penn State shot a 5-under, 283, in the final round to move up four spots and finish tied for second in the postseason tournament at 6-under, 858. The Nittany Lions finished just one stroke behind Texas State, who claimed the team title at 7-under, 857.
 
Meyers finished tied for second in the individual field after carding a 6-under, 66, Sunday, which tied for the lowest-scoring individual round of the tournament. He finished the 54-hole event at 6-under, 210. Meyers’ second-place finish marks his first top five finish of the 2022-23 season and the third top 10 finish of his senior campaign.
 
Junior James Allen finished tied for 13th after shooting a 3-over, 74, Sunday and finishing at 1-under, 215.
 
Freshman Billy Pabst Jr. and senior Patrick Sheehan both placed tied for 27th at 2-over, 218. Pabst Jr. shot a 3-under, 69, in Sunday’s final round, while Sheehan carded a 3-over, 74.
 
Sophomore Morgan Lofland finished in 59th place at 15-over, 231. He shot a 4-over, 76, Sunday.
