SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – No. 4 South Carolina slipped back to sixth on Sunday in the third round of the NCAA Championship. The Gamecocks shot 302 (+14) in difficult scoring conditions with some firm greens and tough pins.

Carolina remains six shots clear of eighth place, which is the cutline for the match play quarterfinals on Tuesday. The Gamecocks made the 15-team cut for the eighth time in 12 NCAA Championship appearances in 16 seasons under head coach Kalen Anderson today.

“It was a day of resilience,” said Anderson. “It was a hard day. We played a little bit tight at the start but hit some shots coming in down the stretch on 15 and 16. They fought hard. They are a resilient team. We had a great day yesterday and need to play disciplined tomorrow. The message to the team today was that it was hard to play seven straight days of great golf. This thing is a marathon, and it is ok. We had a tough day but have been playing a lot of great golf. We must focus on the positives. Keep chugging along and do what we do.”

The senior French duo of Mathilde Claisse and Justine Fournand led Carolina today with a pair of 2-over 74s. Claisse made four birdies and Fournand made three.

Sophomore All-Americans Hannah Darling and Louise Rydqvist were the final counting scores. Darling shot 76 (+4) and Rydqvist shot 78 (+6).  Freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand shot 80 (+8).

Today’s scoring average was 75.60, the highest of the the first three days of the NCAA Championship.

Carolina will be paired with No. 9 Southern Cal and No. 10 Florida State for medal round Monday. The Gamecocks will be off at 10:55 a.m. (ET) with Rydqvist first off the tee.
