Two Lady Vols were named to the 2022-23 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, honoring the nation’s top student-athletes for their athletic and academic performances.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA and serve as a starter or important reserve while also participating in 50 percent of the team’s tournaments this season.
Kayla Holden and Vanessa Gilly were nominated in the At-Large category, both earning recognition for the first time in their careers. By being selected, Holden and Gilly advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot which will be announced June 22.
A junior Sport Management major with a 3.70 GPA, Holden participated in eight tournaments in 2022-23. The Port St. Lucie, Florida, native posted a 74.33 stroke average with three rounds of par or better. Her best performance of the season came at the Illini Women’s Invitational in October, where she shot -4 to tie for 23rd place.
Gilly, a junior Finance major with a 3.77 GPA, played in all 11 tournaments for Tennessee. The Caracas, Venezuela, native logged a 73.21 stroke average with 11 rounds of par or better. Earlier this month, Gilly recorded the second-best finish of her career at NCAA Regionals, tying for ninth place at -5 overall.
