PULLMAN, Wash. (May 23, 2023) – Washington State Athletics had five representatives on the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Teams, as Darcy Habgood from Women’s Golf and sophomore Fiona Elliott, senior Madeleine Pollard, and fifth-year seniors Meg Montgomery and Samantha Schmidt from Women’s Rowing was honored.
The 2023 Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, formally CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. To be selected, student-athletes must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s athletic competitions. CSC Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 22.
Habgood is coming off her best season as a Coug, as she earned a bid to play in the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional to make her the first Cougar since 2018 to play in an NCAA Regional. Habgood earned All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors this season after leading the team in scoring average at 73.97 strokes per round. She recently graduated from Washington State with a bachelor’s degree in advertising holding a GPA of 3.67.
Elliott, Montgomery, Pollard, and Schmidt all competed for the WSU women’s rowing team this past season. The quartet of WSU rowers helped the Cougars win the Fawley Cup against Gonzaga and collect a sixth-place finish at the 2023 Pac-12 Rowing Championships. Elliott, Schmidt, and Pollard were each selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team holding a perfect GPA of 4.0, while Montgomery held a 3.94 GPA.
