STARKVILLE— Graduate student Ford Clegg is the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
Clegg, who is currently working on his MBA, earned his bachelor’s degree in May 2022 in business administration with a focus in finance. He received Summa Cum Laude honors and has maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA throughout his entire academic career including his pursuit of an MBA. He has been awarded the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for three-straight years and made the SEC Academic Honor Roll five times.
The Birmingham, Alabama, native was presented with the award during the practice round on Thursday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the Grayhawk Golf Club. Mississippi State’s last Elite 90 Award winner was Jordan Danberry at the 2017-18 Women’s Final Four.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
