LET READY FOR SWEDISH DOUBLEHEADER AS HELSINGBORG OPEN RETURNS

LET READY FOR SWEDISH DOUBLEHEADER AS HELSINGBORG OPEN RETURNS

Next up on the Ladies European Tour (LET) we’re in Sweden for an exciting doubleheader beginning with the Helsingborg Open.

The tournament marks the tenth event of the 2023 season and follows the Belgian Ladies Open won by German rookie Patricia Isabel Schmidt.

Staged at Allerum Golf Club in northwestern Scandia, the Helsingborg Open returns this year for the first time since 2015 when Denmark’s Nicole Broch Estrup earned her maiden LET title.

Preceding the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, 132 players from 28 nations will compete for a €300,000 purse over 54 holes from Friday to Sunday.

There will be a strong home contingency on display at Allerum Golf Club with 24 Swedish players in the field.

Leading the line-up is four-time Solheim Cup star Caroline Hedwall, as well as Johanna Gustavsson who finished third in last year’s Race to Costa del Sol.

Within this swarm of Swedish talent is also nine of the 11 invitees. This includes collegiate stars Andrea Grimberg Lignell and Louise Rydqvist as well as 18-year-old Meja Ortengren. All of which have had coveted amateur careers to date.

Elsewhere, Spain’s Ana Pelaez Trivino is the highest ranked player in this season’s Race to Costa del Sol competing this week. The 25-year-old currently sits third in the standings, but with Aditi Ashok and Linn Grant absent in Sweden, victory would see her leapfrog the pair into top spot.

The same can also be said for Czechia’s Klara Davidson Spilkova, while Germany’s Chiara Noja has the chance to move into second position with a win. Both players currently sit inside the top 10 of the Race to Costa del Sol and arrive at Helsingborg off the back of runner-up finishes in Florida and Belgium respectively.

Back after an eight year hiatus, the 2023 Helsingborg Open will mark the sixth edition of the tournament, and its fourth on the LET.

After defeating Ashleigh Buhai by one shot in 2015, defending champion Broch Estrup is the only past winner in the field. The full 126 player line-up can be found here.
