Surratt Becomes First Vol in Program History to Earn First Team All-America Honors

For the first time in program history, a Tennessee men’s golfer has secured First Team All-America honors—as freshman Caleb Surratt was named a PING First Team All-America selection Wednesday.

Surratt, who earlier this month was named SEC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC, is the 21st golfer in program history to earn All-America honors, but first to be named First Team.

Surratt is the third Vol to receive All-America distinction under the direction of head coach Brennan Webb. Rhys Nevin and Spencer Cross were All-America Honorable Mentions in 2020, while Cross was once again an Honorable Mention in 2022.

Surratt’s first season on Rocky Top saw him establish himself as a consistent force in Tennessee’s lineup. As a true freshman, he posted a program-record single-season stroke average of 69.58 over 33 rounds while setting another single-season program record in rounds of par or better with 27.

In total during his freshman season, Surratt recorded seven top-10 finishes and two individual titles—including his individual title at the SEC Championship where he posted a 14-under 196, which tied for the second-lowest 54-hole score in SEC Championship history. Surratt became just the fifth Vol in program history to win an SEC individual title, as well as just the fourth to win SEC Freshman of the Year.

The Indian Trail, North Carolina, native’s other individual title came during his first collegiate tournament at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate—where he carded a 54-hole total of 18-under, which holds the program record for best individual 54-hole score.
