Men’s Golf’s Rob Shutte Named 2023 Division I Northeast Coach of the Year

Men's Golf's Rob Shutte Named 2023 Division I Northeast Coach of the Year

NORMAN, Okla. – A week after the Rutgers men’s golf program was named the 2023 Northeast Team of the Year by Golfstat, the head coach of the Scarlet Knights has received another northeast accolade.

Rob Shutte was named the 2023 Golf Pride Grips Region Division 1 Northeast Coach of the Year Wednesday.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for this award,” Shutte said. “Our players have elevated the program every year higher and higher, and this is a tribute to them. To be named alongside such a tremendous group of golf coaches around the country means a lot. I couldn’t do this without the great support of Rutgers Athletics.”

Shutte, a PGA Class “A” member with more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience, just wrapped up his 12th season as the head coach of Rutgers men’s golf for the 2022-23 campaign.

After rebuilding programs at both Muhlenberg College (men’s) and Lehigh University (women’s), Shutte has been raising the bar for the Scarlet Knights since 2012 helping them become one of the top teams in the Northeast Region.

It was an outstanding year for the men’s golf program that ended with the school hosting the first-ever Big Ten Tournament in New Jersey at Galloway National. Three players were honored last week on the All-Northwest PING Team in Xavier Marcoux, Luke Wells and Noah Kumar.

Shutte adds this award in 2023, after being named the GolfWeek Northeast Coach of the Year in 2020.

Along with each region’s coach being honored, six outstanding collegiate golf coaches receiving the 2023 Dave Williams National Coach of the Year Award presented by Golf Pride Grips were announced today by the GCAA. Golf Pride Grips will present the coaches with their awards during the Hall of Fame Banquet at the GCAA National Convention on December 4.

J.C. Deacon of Florida (Division I), David Lynn of Oklahoma Christian (Division II), Dan Rodgers of Carnegie Mellon (Division III), Chris MacDonald of British Columbia (NAIA), Michael Wetrich of Indian Hills (NJCAA Division I), and Darin Pint of Kirkwood (NJCAA Division II) earned coach of the year honors for 2023.
