Bulldogs Add DII National Champion Serra To Roster

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men’s golf has signed Josep Serra out of Nova Southeastern University for the 2023-24 season. Serra, a rising junior from Terrassa, Spain, was a member of the Sharks’ NCAA Division II National Championship team this spring.

Serra helped his team win the third national title in program history, winning two of his matches in the bracket play portion of the tournament while scoring a point in the national championship match. He led the Sharks with an even-par 216 through stroke play to finish tied for 14th individually.

“We are thrilled to add Josep to our Mississippi State golf family,” head coach Dusty Smith said. “He is a very talented player who will be a huge asset to our program. He is a team-first type of player and will be a tremendous addition to our team culture.”

Through 12 tournaments in his sophomore year, Serra averaged 72.25 strokes while recording 16 rounds of par or better and seven rounds in the 60s. He finished as high as a tie for fourth. His best career finish came in his freshman season, when he finished third at the Saint Leo Invitational.

Serra was named the 2022 NCAA Division II Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman, a PING Honorable Mention All-American and All-Region selection and the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year. Over 11 events, he averaged 72.36 strokes and fired a career-low round of 66. That was one of his five rounds in the 60s and 18 shooting par or better. He posted eight top-10 finishes in his two-year Shark career.

Prior to his time at Nova Southeastern, the Spanish native was a member of that nation’s national team. He finished second at the Spanish National Amateur Championships in 2022, and he has placed as high as 30th in professional events in his home country.
