ATLANTA, Ga. – Hunter Logan won the historic Dogwood Amateur at Druid Hills Golf Club over the weekend, firing a 20-under 286 across the four-round event.
The Steens, Mississippi, native closed the tournament with a 5-under 67 to win by five strokes. That came after a career-best round on the tournament’s second day that vaulted him to the top of the leaderboard.
“I just had a number in mind. My goal was to get to 20-under for the tournament,” Logan said afterwards. “That was my main goal this week. I never looked at any leaderboards or asked my caddy where everyone else was at. The only time I asked him was coming down the 18th fairway to make sure I didn’t need to do something.”
After opening the tournament with a 3-under 69, Logan torched the course for an 11-under second round. His career-low 61 was the second-lowest round in the history of the Dogwood Invitational and moved him from a tie for 12th to first place. He went on to hold the lead through each of the final two rounds.
Georgia’s Maxwell Ford tried to cut into Logan’s lead on the final day, tying things up at 18-under after the No. 14 tee, but Ford attempted to drive the green on No. 16 and overshot. He ended up carding a triple bogey while Logan shot three straight birdies on Nos. 13-15 to erase the challenge to his lead.
With his win, Logan earned exemptions into two PGA Australasia tournaments and will have the opportunity to compete internationally in professional events this fall with a stipend to cover his travel costs.
“I do [have a passport], but it might be expired,” Logan said. “I’ve only been out of the country once, and it was a couple of years ago for a college event down in the Bahamas. Besides that, I’ve never been out of the country. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Next on the summer schedule for Logan is the 82nd Sunnehanna Amateur in Westmont, Pennsylvania. Logan will tee off alongside 107 other competitors on June 14 at 8:50 a.m. CT.
Additionally, over the weekend, rising sophomore Drew Wilson finished as the runner-up at the Yellowhammer Invitational. It took two playoff holes to decide a winner after Wilson shot 9-under over three rounds to tie with eventual champion Yin Ho Yue out of Oregon.
