Bulldogs Set To Co-Host Fallen Oak Collegiate In October

STARKVILLE – Fresh off its fourth NCAA Championships appearance, Dusty Smith‘s Mississippi State men’s golf team already knows one piece of its 2023-24 schedule. The Bulldogs will join Ole Miss and Southern Miss to host the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 15-17 at Fallen Oak Golf Course in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The 12-team field will include LSU and Auburn from the Southeastern Conference along with UNLV, Wisconsin, Kansas, UCF, Colorado, Iowa and SMU. All but one team in the field was represented in the 2023 NCAA Regionals either as a team or by at least one individual.

The 2022-23 campaign saw State win three tournaments, just one shy of the school record including the first NCAA Regional title in program history. MSU advanced to its fourth NCAA Championship. Under Smith’s guidance, the Bulldog men have reached the postseason every year. State has won five tournament titles and claimed 29 top-five finishes in his tenure.

Fallen Oak was named the No. 1 course in the state six years running from 2016-21 and it has been tabbed one of America’s Top 100 Golf Courses nine times by Golf Digest since its opening in 2006. Golfweek has also declared it Mississippi’s Best Course You Can Play in every year since 2009.

The fall tournament will be open to the public free of charge. Teams will enter six student-athletes, counting five scores, and both team and individual champions will be named. Prior to the event’s first round, a collegiate-amateur round will take place on Oct. 14.
