DURHAM – Duke women’s golf rising sophomore Andie Smith carded a 2-under-par, 69, this week at the Delray Dunes Golf and Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla., to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Smith, a native of Hobe Sound, Fla., was one of four golfers to shoot 2-under and earn qualifying spots in the U.S. Women’s Amateur that will take place Aug. 7-13 at the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif.
After opening with a birdie on the first hole, Smith suffered a bogey on No. 4 to move back to even par. She remained even through 11 holes, before carding back-to-back birdies on No. 12 and No. 13 to get to 2-under. A bogey on No. 14 dropped her back a shot, but Smith parred the next three holes and rolled in a key birdie on No. 18 to finish at 2-under.
Smith tied with Agustina Gomez Cisterna, Minori Nagano and Angelica Holman at 2-under-par.
It marks the second straight year Smith will compete in the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
