CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five Illinois women’s golfers have been named Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars, as announced by the organization today. Illini alums Crystal Wang (grad. student) and Siyan Chen (senior) along with sophomores Lexanne Halama and Alise Knudson and freshman Mattie Frick all earned All-American Scholar accolades for the 2022-23 season.
Wang collects her fifth-career All-American Scholar honor, Chen earns her third and Halama and Knudson collect their second such honor. Frick also earns the honor for the first time in her career.
In total, 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers were honored as All-American Scholars for the 2022-23 academic year, with a minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.50.
The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
