Alabama Welcomes Transfer Mattie Frick to the Women’s Golf Program


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –Alabama head coach Mic Potter announced the addition of Illinois-transfer Mattie Frick to the women’s golf program. Frick be eligible to compete for the Crimson Tide in the 2023-24 fall season and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Frick comes to Tuscaloosa with an extremely impressive resumé at the prep and collegiate levels, and will look to make an immediate impact.

Mattie Frick | Peoria, Ariz. | Illinois (Liberty HS)

  • Played in 11 of Illinois’ 12 tournaments on the year, with her 32 rounds of action ranking fourth on the team
  • Maintained a scoring average of 75.47 which ranked second-best on the team
  • Carded a season-best 18-hole score of 3-under par 69 at the Briar’s Creek Invitational in John’s Island, South Carolina in March 2023
  • Compiled a career-low tournament score of 2-over oar 218 (70-72-76) over 54 holes of golf at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Florida in November 2022
  • Competed at Liberty High School under head coach Kyle Pooler
  • Earned the 2021 National High School Golf Invitational Runner-Up
  • A Four-time Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Division I state medalist
  • Claimed the AIA Division I state title as a junior and finished as first runner-up her senior season
  • Led Liberty HS to its first ever state championship in 2021 and four-straight district titles
  • Nominated for Arizona Player of the Year as a freshman and junior
  • Parents Matt and Karla (Contryman) were student-athletes and graduated from Alabama, played softball for Alabama under Patrick Murphy while her father, Matt, played baseball for UA under Jim Wells

“We are excited to welcome Mattie to the Alabama women’s golf family! Mattie’s father, Matt, played baseball at Alabama while her mother, Karla, played softball for coach (Patrick) Murphy. Mattie is a member at the same club in Arizona as Alabama alum Stephanie Meadow and . Susan and I think Mattie has tremendous potential, and can’t wait to see what she can do in Crimson and White!
