PINEHURST, N.C. – After totaling an impressive victory Friday morning in the round of 16 at the North & South Women’s Amateur, Duke graduate student Emma McMyler had her run come to an end in the quarterfinals in the afternoon at Pinehurst No. 2.
In the morning, No. 11 seed McMyler faced No. 6 seed Casey Weidenfield. McMyler won holes No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, No. 6 and No. 8 to go ahead 5UP early. She closed the match on No. 12 with a 7&6 victory.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, McMyler went up against No. 30 seed Isabella Rawl in the quarterfinals, following a break. McMyler registered a birdie on the first hole to go ahead 1UP, but Rawl came back to win the next two holes to take a 1UP lead. McMyler evened the match again on No. 4 and Rawl responded by winning holes No. 7 and No. 8 to take a 2UP advantage.
On the back nine, McMyler was able to win holes No. 11 and No. 12 to tie the match. Rawl regained the lead by winning holes No. 13 and No. 14, before closing the match on No. 16 with a 3&2 victory.
McMyler now heads to Durham where she will begin classes at the Duke Fuqua School of Business on Monday.
