Clemson, SC—Clemson golfers Annabelle Pancake, Savannah Grewal and Isabella Rawl will begin play in the 2023 United States Women’s Amateur on Monday, August 7 at Bel Air Country Club in Los Angeles, California. All three players were significant reasons Kelley Hester’s program won the school’s first ACC Championship this past April.
The 156-player tournament runs August 7-13 and television coverage on the Golf Channel begins August 9. There will be 36 holes of stroke play on August 7-8. The top 64 players from the stroke play qualifier will advance to match play and that bracket will determine the champion on August 13.
Clemson is tied for the second-most players in the field. Only the University of Minnesota has more with four, according to notes released by the USGA.
Grewal was Clemson’s top golfer this past season with a school record 71.77 stroke average. The native of Canada, who will be in her fifth year with the program this coming season, had 11 rounds in the 60s and 16 under-par rounds this year. She earned first-team All-ACC honors on the course and in the classroom.
Grewal initially finished as the first alternate from the Chagrin Falls, Ohio qualifier where she shot a one-under-par 71 to tie for fifth place. She reached the final 32 of the US Amateur last year.
Pancake was second to Grewal in stroke average this year with a 72.35 figure, the third-best season average in Clemson history. She had four top-six finishes, the most on the team. That included co-medalist at the Clemson Invitational this year. She also earned first-team All-ACC honors.
Pancake, one of just two players in the field from the state of Indiana, qualified for the US Amateur with a two-under-par 70 at the Chagrin Falls qualifier. She did so by making a birdie on the 17th and 18th holes to finish third at that qualifier. Pancake, who will be a senior on the Clemson team this year, reached the Final 16 of the US Amateur last year, the first Clemson women’s golfer to do so.
Rawl was a starter for Clemson’s ACC Championship team this year as a freshman and finished her rookie season with a 73.91 stroke average. She made the clinching putt for the Tigers at the ACC Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. She had six under-par rounds, including four in the 60s this year.
Rawl qualified for the US Amateur with a round of 65 at the Salisbury, NC qualifier on July 6. Her 65 was second-best in the field and…
