SALT LAKE CITY – Utah men’s golf head coach Garrett Clegg announced the hiring of Keith Wilson on Monday and Wilson will serve as an assistant coach on Clegg’s staff.
“After a national search, I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Keith Wilson to help our golf program!” said Clegg. “Keith brings a wealth of knowledge and is the type of person that will be incredible for the members of our golf program and our entire Utah Golf community. I’m excited to have him on campus and work together to keep this program moving in the right direction!”
Wilson comes to Utah with a long list of qualifications that includes coaching Team Washington in the PGA Junior League and guiding that squad to the PGA Jr. League Championships, one of only 12 teams in the country to earn a spot at that event. Wilson has also served as head coach of the girls’ golf team at Summit Academy High School.
“I couldn’t be more excited about joining the University of Utah men’s golf coaching staff,” said Wilson. “I have long admired Coach Clegg and can’t say enough about what he’s brought to the golf program. This is a top-tier national level program, with outstanding student-athletes, facilities and community support. It’s an exciting time to be here and I’ll do everything I can to help us continue to do big things! Go Utes!”
Wilson first started playing golf at the Skagit Golf and Country Club, where he was taught by the legendary Carl Welty, an instructor and innovator who also worked with PGA Tour professionals such as Jim McLean, Greg Norman and Curtis Strange. Wilson competed in Washington Junior Golf and spent a year at the San Diego Golf Academy as well.
A native of Burlington, Washington and a graduate of BYU, Wilson has a wife named Lynsi and five children: Tayler, Kinley, Rex, Ben and Drew. He has coached his three boys to multiple championships on the golf course, with Ben earning the title of WJGA State Champion, where Rex also placed third. One year earlier, Drew captured the same title in his age group.
