Brinker Tabbed Preseason All-American; Duke Ranked No. 14 Nationally

DURHAM – Golfweek and Golf Channel have announced its preseason women’s golf national rankings and All-America teams heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

Duke senior Phoebe Brinker received third team accolades by Golfweek, after earning Honorable Mention All-America honors in two out of her first three seasons with the Blue Devils.

As a team, Duke has also been ranked No. 14 nationally in the Golf Channel preseason rankings produced by Brentley Romine.  The Blue Devils feature four golfers ranked No. 178 or better in the world led by Brinker (66), graduate student Emma McMyler (90), freshman Katie Li (128) and senior Anne Chen (178).

A native of Wilmington, Del., Brinker heads into her final season with the Blue Devils, after turning in a solid summer.  She finished as low amateur at the Inspirato Colorado Women’s Open as she carded rounds of 70, 71 and 73 for a 2-under, 214.  Brinker closed the summer with a tied for ninth finish at the Canadian Women’s Amateur with rounds of 71, 71, 69 and 78 for a 1-over, 289.

As a junior, Brinker carded a team-best 72.81 stroke average along with six top-10 finishes.  She collected a team-best 18 rounds of even or under par and seven rounds in the 60s.  Brinker registered 105 birdies on the season, becoming the first Blue Devil since 2017-18 to reach the 100-birdie mark.

Brinker posted rounds of 67, 70 and 72 for a 7-under-par, 209, at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational to finish in a tie for first, before falling in a playoff.  She also registered a runner-up placement at the ACC Championship with a 12-under-par, 204, with rounds of 71, 69 and 64.  Brinker collected four straight top-10 finishes in the spring heading into the NCAA Championship.

Brinker has been outstanding at the last two ACC Championships posting a 22-under-par ledger with a victory and runner-up placement.  The two-time Honorable Mention All-American also owns nine career eagles, which ranks tied for first on Duke’s all-time record charts.

Duke opens the 2023-24 campaign at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate September 11-13 at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
