Men’s Golf | September 07, 2023

LOS ANGELES–The USC men’s golf team kicks off the 2023-24 season at the Sahalee Players Championship, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 9-10), at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.

The Trojans, beginning their first season under new head coach Mark Hankins, will open the new campaign by playing 36 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday with a 5 counting 4 format.

The field will feature twelve of the country’s best men’s college golf teams including host Washington, USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Duke, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Stanford, Texas, Texas Tech and Wake Forest.

Each team will start five players and the four lowest scoring players from each round will count toward the team’s score, with the overall lowest scoring team crowned champion at the conclusion of the third round.

In the event of a tie for either the team or the individual titles, there will be a sudden death playoff. Playoff holes will be 17, 18, 17, 18 and continuing in that order until the tie is broken.

The top three teams will be invited back for the 2024 Player’s Championship, while the individual champion will receive a sponsor’s exemption to the 2023 Fortinet Championship played on the PGA Tour Sept. 11-17 in Napa, California. There will also be a Team Skills Challenge Friday evening featuring Long Drive/Putting/Short Game contests.

Play begins at 7:45 a.m. both days. Live scoring will be available here.

This is the first time USC has competed in this tournament.

The Trojans return seniors Shane Ffrench and Krando Nishiba, juniors Gavin Aurilia and Jackson Rivera and sophomore Rocky Chapman. USC added two transfers in the offseason: graduate transfer Sam Lape from Furman and sophomore Antonio Safa from Missouri. Additionally, the Trojans signed freshman Nicolas Dominguez
