Vols in First, Lewis Tied for Second Individually After Round One of Visit Knoxville Collegiate

LOUDON, Tenn. – The 10th-ranked Tennessee men’s golf team is in first place following round one of the Visit Knoxville Collegiate, while Bryce Lewis sits tied for second place individually.

As a team, the Vols shot 7-under with four players being even-par or better. Currently, UT is one stroke ahead of Mississippi State.

Lewis led the team with a 4-under 66 to open his final season on Rocky Top. The redshirt senior fired five consecutive birdies on the front nine and a pair of birdies on the back.

One stroke behind Lewis is Caleb Surratt, who shot 3-under after registering six birdies during his opening round. The sophomore is tied for fourth ahead of Saturday’s round.

Lance Simpson and Jake Hall provided Tennessee with its final counting rounds of the day—a pair of even-par 70s. Hall logged three birdies while Simpson notched four of his own. The duo sits tied for 19th after round one.

The final member of the Vol lineup, Evan Woosley-Reed, shot a 1-over 71. The Shelbyville native is tied for 28th going into the second round.

Competing individually for the Vols in his collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Bruce Murphy posted a 2-under 68. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native produced four birdies on Friday and is tied for seventh place ahead of day two.

True freshman Jean-Philippe Parr made his first appearance in orange, competing individually for the Vols. Parr registered a 5-over 75, including a front nine 35.

Laurent Desmarchais also shot a 75 in round one and sits tied for 57th.

Tennessee’s final individual was Josh Hill, who shot 6-over. Hill is tied for 67th after Friday’s round.
