Women’s Golf | September 11, 2023
Junior Amari Avery joins a cast of 25 golfers from around the country as she was named to the ANNIKA Award’s Fall Watch List, the award announced Monday (Sept 11).
The ANNIKA Award is distributed annually to the best player in women’s golf. Avery was a finalist for the award as a freshman in 2022 and was named to the watch list in the fall of 2023.
Avery will be a staple piece of the Trojans lineup as she heads into the season as the 14th-ranked amateur in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. The junior enters her second fall season after joining USC in the spring of 2022.
With one and a half years under her belt, Avery has stacked her resume amongst some of the best in Trojans’ history. Avery ranks tied for fifth in career wins (four), is second in career stroke average (71.71) and is tied for third for the most rounds of 60 in a career (21). Last season, Avery led the squad in almost every category: stroke average (71.76), rounds in the 60s (11) and tied sophomore Catherine Park in top-ten finishes (four). With these numbers, Avery earned WGCA All-American Honorable Mention status; the junior was previously named to the First Team All-American squad in 2022.
The Women of Troy began their season on Sept 18 with the Leadership and Golf Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., at Chambers Bay Golf Club.
