CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tennessee senior Vanessa Gilly finished round two with a score of 67, followed by a 70 in round three to place 9th at the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club on Tuesday. Her 54-hole score of 205 is the lowest of her career, and her 8-under is also a career-best relative to par.
Today’s action began with a resumption of round two after yesterday’s rain delay. After finishing round two with a score of 7-under (277) – the sixth-best team score of the round – Tennessee was one of six schools to have all five golfers record a par in one of the first two rounds.
Collectively, Tennessee shot 1-over (853), ranking 10th out of 17 schools. In a field loaded with competition, 38 individuals shot under par.
Gilly bested her 68 in round one with a 67 in round two, a figure that matches her career-low that she attained at NCAA Regionals last spring. In her final round, she logged 17 pars and one birdie on hole 4 for a score of 70. With the performance, she notches her third career top-10 finish and her eighth appearance in the top 25.
Senior Kayla Holden recorded scores of 71, 72 and 73 for a 54-hole score of 2-over (216) which ranked 57th overall. Not far behind her was sophomore Caroline Patterson, who carded a 1-under in round 1 and finished 6-over (219) for the tournament, a 12-stroke improvement from her collegiate debut at last year’s Cougar Classic.
Bailey Davis and Manassanan Chotikabhukkana tied for 77th place with a 54-hole score of 10-over (223). Both shot par or better in round two, clocking scores of par (71) and 3-under (68), respectively.
